Under the direction of the Swiss Police Chiefs Association (KKPKS), the FOR maintains the Office of Firearm Evidence Analysis (ZSAS).
The ZSAS creates and compares ballistic evidence from unresolved firearm incidents for all cantons and exchanges information with other countries as needed.
The ZSAS also assists with recovering evidence at scenes involving the use of firearms. These activities include:
- Reconstruction of gunshot trajectories (3D reconstruction)
- Determination of shooting distance using 3D reconstruction or gunshot residues
- Examination and assessment of firearms for their handling safety
- Analysis of evidence from destabilization devices
