Material Analysis

The field of investigation of the Material Analysis Group covers a very broad range of materials to be examined.
It assesses polymers (plastic materials, such as  materials produced using 3D printers), (precious) metals, jewelry and gemstones, glass, fibres, paints, inks and toners on contracts and wills, gunshot residues, material transfers, forgeries of art works and cultural property, etc. Various microscopic, spectroscopic, chromatographic, and thermal analytical methods are used for this purpose.
In addition, on behalf of the Federal Office of Police (fedpol), the Material Analysis Group operates Switzerland’s central laboratory for staining/security inks used in fight against crime.
